Dream Designs Handmade Pottery.... I am a potter and digital photography artist, and have been doing pottery for many years in the West Texas area. I specialize in Raku pottery as well as functional pottery. My horsehair and copper matte pottery are amazing that they survive 1,700 plus degree Raku firings to produce one of a kind pieces of art. They come from the fire and licked by flames to create unique designs. My copper matte is flashed with 99% alcohol after coming straight from the Raku kiln and then reduced in sand to achieve the unusual colors and texture. Besides working in the clay, I enjoy digital photography creations using a computer and software to develop photographs I have captured in the West Texas area. Pottery pieces are listed on Dream Designs Pottery and click HERE to view digital art. |

I have been making
pottery for several years and have had the wonderful opportunity to study under
some very gifted master potters. Uniqueness and individualism are two qualities
that I believe that I bring to my pottery. All my pottery is handmade using a
potter's wheel. I do a small amount of slab and hand building. I specialize in RAKU firing and Wood firing processes, but I also do some functional pottery as
well. I've had the great fortune to study under several master potters such as
Randy Brodnax of the Dallas-Ft. Worth area and Don Ellis of Cloudcroft, N.M. I
also studied under the great-grand daughters of Maria Martinez in the Pueblos in
Espanola, N.M. I also had the good luck of observing Felipe Ortega at his
workshop in La Madera, N.M. Master
potter. With his museum quality micaceous clay pots and his flair for
traditional Southwest cooking, I was able to see another aspect of working with
clays. Dave Funk and Shane Christianson are
professors in pottery at Western Texas College that I've also studied under. I
love seeing and working with great potters to help broaden my knowledge base of
clay and pottery. Remember when you observe a piece of pottery, you are not
just looking at a beautiful piece of beautiful art, but the end result of hard
work, heritage, exposure of elements, vast firing techniques, and a whole lot of
luck. And by the grace of God, you will have a piece of pottery that has a piece
of you that will be around forever. And hopefully someone will enjoy having and
sharing as much as I enjoy making it. |

I have Mohawk and Irish
ancestry background, but being raised in West Texas area, most of my pottery
design is patterned after the Pueblo Indians in New Mexico.
The one ingredient that sets my pottery out from other potters is my firing techniques. Through trial and error and mostly error, I have been fortunate to fine tune some firings to get the pottery pieces in a unique look I am trying to achieve. Each pottery piece is a unique work of art and I've found they make wonderful gifts for both men and women who love the arts. I don't do duplications in my work and I live by words of a famous potter friend of mine. When he was ask if he could make identical non-functional pieces, he replied, " if you want art, then you've come to the right place and if you want reproduction pieces, go to Pier One or Walmart ".
